12 Aug From print to pixels: How we helped MMSS transform its flagship careers resource
Every February since 2017, the MMSS Careers Book would land with a thud – literally. But last year, MMSS decided it needed a facelift.
Students were online. Employers were digital-first. And that 80-page book? It was starting to feel like a relic.
That’s when MMSS came to us with an idea – not to tweak the book, but to rethink the entire experience.
The client: Monash Marketing Students’ Society (MMSS)
With over 1,000 members, MMSS is one of the biggest and most active student groups on campus. It’s known for holding high-impact events, forging strong industry links and giving marketing students a real edge as they launch their careers.
One of their longest-running resources? The MMSS Careers Book – a print guide packed with alumni insights and grad tips (which we’ve been writing for them for seven years).
It was well-loved. But it was time for a new lease on life.
The challenge: Make it modern, keep it meaningful
In 2024, MMSS made the bold decision to scrap the print model and go fully digital. But the vision wasn’t just ‘put the book online’.
Instead, the team wanted to build a living, breathing platform that would:
- Preserve the Careers Book’s trusted voice and useful content
- Better engage digital-native students
- Reflect the energy and identity of MMSS
- Provide year-round value to students, alumni and employers alike
The brief was ambitious: transform a once-a-year book into a future-ready flagship site.
The solution: A bold new brand, structure and tone
We worked closely with MMSS and the Monash marketing department to reimagine the resource from the ground up.
Here’s how we did it:
- Reset the brief: We collaborated across teams to clarify what to keep (alumni stories, career tips) and what to elevate (design, structure, personality).
- Named the platform: After exploring dozens of options, we landed on Marketing Careers Central – clear, confident and built to last.
- Built a strong framework: With a keen eye on user experience, we structured the site around a ‘Get’ concept – Get inspired, Get hired, Get involved, Get informed, Get prepared and Get in touch – giving students a clear sense of where to go and what to expect.
- Created Coach Cody: To give the advice section more edge and energy, we introduced a fictional persona who dishes out straight-talking, Gen Z-friendly career tips with humour and warmth.
- Kept MMSS front and centre: From tone to visuals to weekly WIPs, we made sure the students were in the driver’s seat – and built their ownership into every step of the process.
The result: A flagship platform with real impact
Marketing Careers Central is now a dynamic digital hub – updated regularly with alumni features, employer content, blogs and more. It’s also a retainer project, meaning we continue to support MMSS with ongoing content strategy, blog writing and creative guidance.
We also delivered:
- 4 outreach email templates to connect with more alumni
- An 8-page O-Week handout to promote the new platform
- A 4-page employer guide to drive industry engagement
- A 6-month blog calendar to keep the site fresh and relevant
The impact: Future-ready, student-powered
MMSS now has a platform that reflects who it is – bold, ambitious and genuinely useful.
It’s a resource that empowers students, attracts employers and proves just how far a student-led project can go when it’s backed by strategy, creativity and a whole lot of energy.
And for us? It’s the kind of work we love to do.
So go on, explore Marketing Careers Central for yourself. And if you’ve got a static PDF or print resource that deserves a bigger stage? We can help you out with that. Let’s chat.
